Shillong, Oct 22: Swami Guruprasad of Sivagiri, Kerala Monday urged upon all to practice the preaching of Sree Narayana Guru in daily life - One Caste, One Religion, One God.
On his maiden visit to Shillong, Swami Guruprasad invited Meghalaya Governor RS Mooshahary to attend the annual Sivagiri Pilgrimage or Sivagiri Theerthadanam.
Talking to a small gathering after meeting the Governor, Swami Guruprasad said “we need to practice Guru’s teachings” adding that Sree Narayana Guru continues to live in the hearts of the people who follow his preaching.
Sree Narayana Guru’s concept of - One Caste, One Religion, One God – came at the time when Kerala was plagued with caste system, which had devastated the society there, wherein those from low caste were treated worse than animals.
He led Reform movement in Kerala, revolted against casteism and worked on propagating new values of freedom in spirituality and of social equality, thereby transforming the Kerala society and as such he is adored as a prophet.
As the gathering discussed the preaching of Sree Narayana Guru in modern context with Swami Guruprasad, suggestions were made to introduce the preaching at political level. The concept being, since corruption has reached a level that none can escape it, the Guru’s preaching will help curb the society of this evil practice.
Also, it was realized that though the caste system has physically been curbed, it however is becoming intellectual based.
It has also discussed how the preaching against the caste system by Guru were misinterpreted by people, giving it a religious form. Whereas, it only talks about the ways of life.
Swami Guruprasad hoped that by making people aware of the concept of Sree Narayana Guru, the society will become more harmonious place to live in.
