Where was Sreemoolavasam?

            For a long time disputes were on among historians and archaeologists regarding the exact location of Sreemoolavasam Buddhist centre. According to Dr. T. A. Gopinatha Rao, it was located between Thrikkunnapuzha and Alappuzha.In Alappuzha there is a place that remains in the name of Sreemoolavasam, near thrikkunnapuzha. Archaeologists strongly believe that the image erected and worshiped in the Thrikkunnapuzha Sastha temple is the Buddha image recovered from the coastal area of Sreemoolavasam. One of the temple inscriptions itself supports this argument.
