Sreemoolavasam Buddha Vihara in Kerala


            Sreemoolavasam is one of the most famous Buddhist pilgrimage centre of ancient Kerala. Its fame spread across India for centuries. During the British regime M. Foucher, a noted British archaeologist recovered a Lokeshwara image from Gandharam of North India.On that image was engraved "dhakshinapathemoola vasanatha". According to Archaeologists, this inscription is a strong evidence of the fame of Sreemoolavasam Buddhist pilgrimage centre.
